How To Backwash MBR Membranes?

Last Updated on February 27, 2022 by Kevin Chen

Reinforced hollow fiber membranes are made of polymer materials and use outside-in pressure filtration.

During filtration, the fibers are compressed by pressure from outside to inside. The pore size on the outer surface is becoming smaller, and the filtration precision is becoming higher.

While backwashing, the fibers are forced to expand outwards. The impurities that may enter the membrane pores are flushed more thoroughly.

Tip 1: Use produced water or higher quality water as the backwash water.

Tip 2: Control the backwash pressure at 50 – 100 kPa.

Tip 3: Set backwash flow: 2 times of the produced water.

Tip 4: Set backwash time: 1 – 5min.

Tip 5: Adjust the backwash process per 1-12h according to the produced water quality.
